PFF Pres. Araneta Eager to See the Azkals in Asian Cup
Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta Jr. expressed his confidence in the Philippine Men’s National team ahead of their final AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers match against Tajikistan on 27 March 2018 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Following a meeting at the PFF House of Football last January 30, Araneta is hoping that the Azkals finally clinch their place in the Asian Cup.
“This will be the third time that the Philippines will play the qualifiers on home soil, and this time everything is on the line in this upcoming match,” said Araneta. “Philippine football saw ups and downs last year. In 2018, we have the chance to rewrite Philippine football history again.”
A former national team player himself, Araneta reminded to the players how important it is to wear the colors of the national team and that every time the players walk on to the field, they are representing each and every Filipino here and around the world.
“To represent the country will always be a privilege and for the players to be part of the national team will always an honour that should be taken to heart,” added Araneta. “Every time a player wears the colours of the Philippines, he represents the hope and aspirations of the more than 100 million Filipinos around the world.”
Araneta has also called on other football stakeholders to be united in support of the Azkals for the upcoming match.
“We at the Philippine Football Federation throw our full support behind the Men’s National Team ahead of the final match of the qualifiers,” stated Araneta. “The match on 27 March 2018 is crucial and qualifying for the Asian Cup will be a fantastic achievement for Philippine football. We look forward to the day that we will see our own national team among the best teams in Asia. To be one of the 24 teams to participate in the Asian Cup will be the perfect opportunity to showcase what Philippine football already has to offer.”
The PFF president also called on the fans to make it an affair to remember on March 27 with the promise that there will be more historic moments to come in Philippine football.
“This is just the beginning. We hope to create more historic moments from this year onward, for the love of football and the Flag,” said Araneta. “See you at Rizal Memorial on March 27!“
